Marvel Studios has found its Doctor Strange director! Sinister and The Exorcism of Emily Rose helmer Scott Derrickson will take on the master of the mystic arts.

"[Doctor Strange] checks the box off this criteria that I have," Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige told SuperHeroHype recently about the long-gestating feature. "He’s totally different from anything else we have."

Although a specific release date for Doctor Strange has not yet been set, Marvel has two placeholder dates set for unnamed features on July 8, 2016 and on May 5, 2017. It's looking more and more likely that the good doctor will be claiming one of those spots.

Derrickson's other directing credits include the 2009 remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still and the upcoming Deliver Us From Evil, hitting theaters July 2. He shared the news of his involvement with Doctor Strange with the below Tweet:

Just got out of working on the Guardians cut for IMAX 3D and I'm unbelievably excited about it. Guardians of the Galaxy has been planned as a 3D film from its very inception. Yes, if you see the film in 2D, you'll get a full experience. But the 3D experience promises a little something extra. Unlike many directors, I've been actively involved with converting every shot to 3D, making sure it works perfectly for the story and the film, making sure it's spectacular and immersive without being silly, distracting, or overly showy. 3D conversion was once far inferior to shooting in 3D, but over the past couple years new technology has allowed us incredible control over the 3D effects, making it equal to or in some cases greater than shooting in 3D.

As an EXTRA benefit for those who see the film in IMAX 3D, we will be changing aspect ratios throughout the film in a way that makes the experience even fuller and more encompassing. I've personally chosen all the places where the changes occur and, again, I love how it's coming along. The changing aspect ratios in this case are actually a part of the storytelling.

Da ich mich nicht im DC Unversum auskenne, sag ich mal interessant
Helm of Fate sagt mir zwar schon etwas, dank Young Justice, aber ich denke mal, dass könnte auch gut in den Constantine passen, wobei ich von Constantine nur den Film mit Keanu Reeves kenne^^'

Ich hoffe, dass es voreilig war und dieses Ding einfach nur ein unwichtiges Easteregg ist. Aber Constantine wurde kürzlich offiziell ins DC-Universum aufgenommen, von daher ist es gut möglich, dass sie in diese Richtung gehen wollen und plötzlich hüpfen da dann Superman, Green Arrow und wer auch immer rum.
Keine Ahnung. Ich hoffe auf eine coole Serie, die sich an den Hellblazer-Comics orientiert. Und diese war komplett losgelöst vom DC-Universum. Wenn sie das da jetzt reinwurschteln, fände ich das unglaublich dumm und es wäre für mich ein Grund, auf die Serie zu verzichten.

Na ja, "offiziell" allem voran in der New 52. Constantine ist auch schon vor ~20? Jahren in Sandman aufgetaucht etc ... ganz so klar ist es also nicht. Du kannst bei Comics ja nur in den offensichtlichen Fällen klar abtrennen, welche Figur jetzt zu welcher Reihe gehört. Wo sie ursprünglich mal aufgetaucht sind, spielt heute eh keine Rolle mehr, und dementsprechend wird es immer ein gewisses Überlappen geben. Daran scheidet sich dann auch der Weg; versucht man es so wie CW zu machen, mit mehreren Serien, oder nimmt man einfach "fremde" Figuren für eine Serie? Ganz drauf verzichten geht schwer, wenn auch bei Constantine mit Sicherheit noch erheblich besser als bei vielen anderen.

Hat der Sender denn schon andere DC-Serien (angekündigt)? Ich glaube nicht, dass da groß eine Doctor-Fate-Serie oder sowas geplant ist - außer vielleicht, Doctor Strange haut richtig heftig rein, box-office-mäßig. Und der Helm of Fate eignet sich einfach wahnsinnig gut als Story-Element, weil er vergleichsweise "un-superheldig" ist (bis man jemanden "Doctor Fate" nennt, natürlich ). Smallville hat den auch konzeptuell praktisch 1:1 aus dem Comics übernommen. Der wäre also durchaus auch ein gutes Ding für einen Constantine-Arc oder sowas, ohne dass man eine echte Crossover-Kiste aufmachen muss. Ich würde sogar tippen, dass der im Gesamtbild der Serie nicht mal auffällt. Solange sie niemanden Doctor Fate nennen, wie gesagt.

Variety reports that the popular Image Comic's series Rat Queens and Peter Panzerfaust, both created by writer Kurtis J. Wiebe, will be making the journey to the small screen, each as a television series. "Rat Queens" will be produced by Weta Workshop’s Pukeko Pictures and Heavy Metal, who plan on turning the comedic fantasy into a half-hour animated series. "Peter Panzerfaust" on the other hand will be produced by BBC Worldwide and Heavy Metal with "Life on Mars" creators Matthew Graham and Ashley Pharoah writing the pilot script.

Created by Wiebe and Roc Upchurch, Rat Queens launched this past September and is described as follows: "Who are the Rat Queens? A pack of booze-guzzling, death-dealing battle maidens-for-hire, and they're in the business of killing all god's creatures for profit. It's also a darkly comedic sass-and-sorcery series starring Hannah the Rockabilly Elven Mage, Violet the Hipster Dwarven Fighter, Dee the Atheist Human Cleric and Betty the Hippy Smidgen Thief."

Peter Panzerfaust was also created by Wiebe with artist Tyler Jenkins. The series launched in February of 2012 and is a retelling of J.M. Barrie's "Peter Pan" set in the backdrop of Nazi-occupied France during World War II instead of the fantastical Neverland. Check back here for more info on these projects as we learn them.
