Here is a thread which has SCEA official images of the 2005 PS3 and the 2006 PS3. It's changed quite a bit since last E3.

EA's Realism Innovations
- by bapenguin On May 13, 2006 - 8:27 AM
During the Sony presser we got to see the new motion capture technology from EA Sports with the virtual Tiger Woods. Joystiq takes a look at 4 other technologies EA is bringing to the next gen table to increase realism in their titles.
Quote:
Foot Planting: This is an issue we have still seen in many high-profile titles (e.g. Oblivion): a character will run, but his legs move slower and faster than the actual pace of the character, given the impression that these characters are somehow gliding across the map; this technology aims to fix that.

Very cool. Good to see EA making strides forward.

MS: No Planned PSP/DS Competitor
- by Norse On May 13, 2006 - 12:33 AM
Eurogamer reports that Microsoft has no plans for a handheld gaming system:

Quote:
But speaking to gadget website T3, Thompson said: "We’re not even thinking about that at the moment. Handhelds, in the way you would think about a handheld like a PSP? No."

In my books this is good news. MS should focus their efforts on the X360 and Vista as gaming platforms.

Wofür auch wenn sie Vista PC`s und Handy`s am start haben ^^

Gran Turismo HD not running on a PS3
- by Norse On May 13, 2006 - 12:28 AM
According to The Inquirer, Sony ran GT HD on a PC and not a PS3 at E3:

Quote:
Well, the version of Gran Turismo, ostensibly running on a PS3, is really running on a PC. Is Sony trying to tell us that a PC is a better gaming platform than the upcoming $600 beastie, or is it the other way around?
I can't say I'm surprised. It would be better for Sony to be open about this, and not coming across as trying to hide it.

*sigh*...

Sony Executive - 'Make Your Own Games Using Linux on the PS3'
- by fitbabits On May 12, 2006 - 12:43 PM
Gamasutra has the news.

Quote:
In an intriguing turn of events, Sony executive Izumi Kawanishi has illuminated some of his company's PlayStation 3 Linux plans, indicating that it will be possible for individual 'homebrew' coders to create playable content for PS3, something actively blocked for Sony's PSP handheld.

In comments made to Japanese game website Impress Watch, and translated by GameSetWatch contributor Shou Suzuki, Kawanishi noted: "Because we have plans for having Linux on board [the PS3], we also recognize Linux programming activities... Other then game studios tied to official developer licenses, we'd like to see various individuals participate in content creation for the PS3."

It seems that Sony is happy to let basic application and game construction take place without access to the extremely sophisticated rendering and physics libraries available to licensors - Kawanishi further commented: "When a game studio enacts development on a PS3 by entering a license contract, SDK libraries... will be presented, and various technical support given. In contrast, when using Linux World on the PS3... support will fall to the lowest level required, and you must solve and work on things by yourselves."

Finally, some positive PS3-related news.

Ken Kutaragi - "PS3 probably too cheap"
- by bapenguin On May 12, 2006 - 10:35 AM
As E3 week wraps up around the Evil Avatar offices, it just wouldn't be complete without one more zany quote from our good friend Mr. Ken Kutaragi. Apparantly boys and girls, $600 is too cheap for the PS3.
Quote:
SCEI president Ken Kutaragi has defended the PlayStation 3's high price tag once again, declaring that not only will consumers be prepared to pay the cost but that the console is "probably too cheap."

Yes Ken, I'd actually like to pay $1000 for your Playstation 3. Throw in two DualShakes and you got yourself a deal!

Super Smash Bros Brawl not using Wii Controller Features
- by bapenguin On May 12, 2006 - 10:09 AM
I noticed over at Joystiq they had posted up some more detailed impressions on the Wii controller. Overall it seems like the controller does exactly what it claims, but it's currently the first batch of some software titles holding it back. They talked about the learning curve of the controller and how its going to take a while to unlearn a standard controller. On top of that, we get word that the new Smash Bros Brawl will not be using the Wii controller features.
Quote:
It's gonna take a lot of work to rewire how we, longtime gamers, play video games. It's important for Nintendo to understand this, and I believe they do.

At that same event, Sakurai echoed this sentiment when he told gamers not to throw out their GameCube controllers; that is, Super Smash Bros. Brawl will use a conventional (not motion-activated) control scheme. There has to be this balance on Wii, or at least, the option. The Wii version of Twilight Princess should support GameCube controls, as perhaps should Metroid, RedSteel, Madden, etc.

Can't say I'm surprised...I can't really see a fighter using this style of control. For a fighter you need quickness and preciseness in your control, and the latter might be quite a bit tougher to pull off on the Wii.
