Does this mean that the PS2 hardware chips have been removed completely and replaced with software-only emulation?

The original PS3 used the Emotion Engine/Graphics Synthesiser to emulate PS2 titles. With the latest European specification we have removed the Emotion Engine, retaining the graphics chip. This has an impact on the number of PS2 titles that will be backwards compatible.

The current PS3 model that's available for purchase in Asia and North America achieves backwards compatibility through hardware, as each unit includes the "Emotion Engine + Graphics Synthesizer" combination CPU and graphics chip that powers the slim model PS2. The European version of the hardware will not have this chip, SCEI confirmed today. Sony is including hardware of some form that will take the place of the Graphics Synthesizer graphics chip. The Emotion Engine CPU functionality will be replicated entirely through software emulation.

Laut www.gamespot.com hat Sony jetzt endgültigt bestätigt, dass PS3 Spiele in Europa 59,00 Euros kosten werden.

Jawohl,perfekt.
Dann wird es doch nicht alles so teuer,wie ich es mir gedacht habe.
Ich habe in vielen Zeitschriften gelesen,dass die Spiele 70€ kosten sollen...

Ich habe mir die PS 3 bereits im August vorbestellt,hoffenltlich bekomme ich am 23.3 auch auch eine .

Weis jemand,ob man auch die PS 1 + PS 2 Spiele auf der PS 3 abspielen kann?

Ich habe gehört,dass es noch ein Erweiterungsteil gibt,dass die Grafik der PS 2 Spiele verbessern soll,wisst ihr vielleicht genaueres?
Hat jemand schon die Realese-Termine für:

1: Devil May Cry 4
2: Tekken 6
3: Metal Gear Solid 4
4: Resident Evil 5
5: Final Fantasy XIII ?

Du findest den Preis von 70€ pro Game für perfekt und hälst das alles für günstiger als gedacht? Und du weißt nicht ob die PS3 PS1 + PS2 abspielen kann? Und dennoch hast du dir die Kiste bereits im August vorbestellt? Ist das ironisch gemeint?



Wie auch immer... DMC4 soll schon im Herbst 2007 hier in Europa erscheinen.

Eingeschränkte Abwärtskompatibilität aus Kostengründen

26.02.07 - Wie berichtet, wird die PlayStation3 in Europa nur eingeschränkt abwärtskompatibel zu PS- und PS2-Spielen sein. Grund ist, dass die Emulation via Software durchgeführt wird.

Michael Ephraim, Managing Director von Sony Computer Entertainment Australia, hat gegenüber Gamespot bestätigt, dass man aus Kostengründen eine Software-Emulation von PS2-Spielen in Europa vorzieht.

So fehlt in den europäischen PS3-Modellen der Chip 'Emotion Engine + Graphics Synthesizer': Die Aufgaben der 'Emotion Engine' werden laut SCEI von kostengünstiger Software übernommen, während es für den fehlenden 'Graphics Synthesizer' eine anderweitige Hardware-Lösung geben soll.
