Basically, all of it can be seen in my videos, but I’ll just write it down here:
Yazmat
Goal of my strategy: Beating all uber-bosses without the use of Reverse and with mostly buyable/easily obtainable equipment. Instead of investing hours looking for rare monsters and even rarer equipments (without any garanteed succes, that is), I went the “sure-fire way”, which meant leveling to level 99 and then, start the fight... no other fancy stuff. Aside from doing all the other Mob Hunts and Summons first, of course.
All my characters were at level 99, which requires 13’471’129 EXP, btw.

Balflear:
Altema Blade
Circlet
Maximilian
Bubble Chain
Fran:
Masamune

Ashe:
Ragnarok
“Magic Power Shishaak” (Seashark?)
Maximilian
Bubble Chain
Gambit setup:
Balflear:
Enemy with Regen > Dispel
KO’ed ally > Araise
By oneself > Hastaga
Ally with Slip > Esuna
Ally with less than 10% MP > Elixir
Enemy with lowest HP > Attack
Fran:
Enemy with Protect > Dispel
KO’ed ally > Araise
Ally with less than 60% HP > Curaga
By oneself > Shellga
Petrifying ally > Stona
Ally with less than 10% MP > Elixir
Enemy with lowest HP > Attack
Ashe:
Enemy with Haste > Dispel
Reflect on oneself > Dispelga
KO’ed ally > Araise
Stopped ally > Chronos Tear
By oneself > Shellga
Petrifying ally > Stona
Petrified ally > Golden Needle
Enemy with lowest HP > Attack
This setup allowed me to take out Yazmat’s last HP bar in about 8 mins. Each of my attacks constantly did around 4000-5500 damage, with a more powerful critical hit at rare occasions. You can find a video of that on my page (
http://www.holystar.ch.vu). I should also mention that Yazmat’s Cyclone did around 7200+ damage to my parte, 9200+ damage if not under Shell status.
For the first half or so of the battle, I had a slightly different setup because Yazmat’s lower speed and power allows more freedom:
First of all, you can start out each “round” against Yazmat by reducing his DEF with the Defense Destruction skill. Use it until all of your attacks deal 9999 damage. Also, there’s enough time to have your characters buff themselves with Protect and Brave.
Then, instead of those large 2-handed swords or Katanas (Altema Blade, Ragnarok, Masamune), I had each of my characters wear a Kagenui, a Dark-element ninja sword at ATK 62. It’s the best buyable ninja sword, sold at the Phon Coast Camp for 10’000 Gil. While a lot less powerful than the other swords, it makes use of Yazmat’s weakness against the Dark attribute and tends to get combo hits a LOT more often. This allows you to shave off hundreds of thousands of HPs rather fast.
As I said, this setup only works for the first half of the battle, and partly, for the third forth. After that, Yazmat just gets too powerful and way too fast for you to use Defense Destruction and Brave. Hence, switch to the setup above. Also, the more powerful 2-handed swords excel the ninja swords because you don’t need to reduce Yazmat’s DEF for decent damage.
If you follow that strategy, you can take out Yazmat in about 3-4 hours without too much hassle and more importantly, without resorting to that rather cheap Reverse spell. Still, there might be cases where he suddenly seems to spam insta-kills. If you experience such bad odds, escape from the battle, go save and come back again. Thinks will usually be back to “normal” again. The downside of course is, that you have to reduce his DEF again by using the Defense Destruction skill.
Well, have fun with the battle.... it’s by far the hardest one in FFXII. ^^
PS: I have no clue what that Shi-sha-a-ku headgear from Ashe is supposed to mean... any ideas? Seashark would work, but I find it rather strange.
Well, so much for Yazi... maybe, if I have time, I’ll write up a similar text for Omega mk. XII. Or, you just check the movie I made. ***shameless self-advertisement***
Omega mk. XII
Again, all my characters were at level 99, which required 13’471’129 EXP.

“Magic Power Shishaak” (Seashark?)

*) Equipping the Venetia Plate was a BIG mistake I didn’t realize until after the battle though... it makes the wearer weak to the Thunder element, and it seems that this is just the attribute which Omega uses to attack. I still won the fight though... ^^
Gambit setup:
Balflear:
KO’ed ally > Araise
By oneself > Brave
By oneself > Shellga
Ally with less than 20% MP > Elixir
Enemy with lowest HP > Attack
Enemy with lowest HP > Defense Destruction**
**) I only used that during the first part of the fight (deactivate the regular attack), until all my attacks did 6999 damage.
Fran:
Ally with less than 40% HP > Curaga
KO’ed ally > Araise
By oneself > Hastaga
By oneself > Brave
Enemy with lowest HP > Attack
Enemy with lowest HP > Steal***
***) Again, only early during the battle.... not that Omega had a useful item though. ^^
Ashe:
Ally with less than 70% HP > Curaga
KO’ed ally > Araise
By oneself > Brave****
By oneself > Protega
Enemy with lowest HP > Attack
****) Deactivated after Omega got that attack and speed boost.
I think I also had to Dispel some buffs in the beginning, but I’m not sure anymore.
This setup allowed me to take out Omega’s last 3.5 million HP in about 15 mins. Each of my attacks constantly did around 2000-3000 damage. That includes some Defense Destruction at the beginning of the battle until all my guys did 6999 damage (yeah, Omega starts out with that mean damage cap straight of the bat) as well as Brave. Again, you can find a video of that fight on my page (
http://www.holystar.ch.vu).
As for Omega’s attacks, besides taking some hundred damage each time I scored a hit (what status is that in the first place??), I suffered around 3500-4000 damage from his laser hits, 4000-5000 without Protect. The fast pace of Omega’s attacks is the reason that two of my characters cast Protega, btw. Shell seems useless.
For the first half or so of the battle, I had almost the same setup:
The only difference was that I didn’t use Elixirs to replenish my MP, but rather, switched around the healers so that if say Ashe got low on MP, Fran did the healing, then Balflear and after that, Ashe had enough MP again for the healing job etc.
Besides the obvious DEF reduction, I also had all my charas on Brave status constantly, because even the healer could get in some hits due to Omega’s lower damage output and speed in the early states of the battle.
If you follow that strategy, you can take down Omega and his 20 million HP in about 70-85 mins pretty easily, and again, without having to use that rather cheap Reverse spell. Don’t try to use Defense Destruction once Omega is in critical status though, despite its very high DEF. It misses like 80% of the time....
Well, again enjoy the battle.... it’s a lot easier than the fight against Yazmat actually, even though you cannot save. And, don’t forget to pick up that dropped Omega Crest item afterwards as well as adjusting your Gambits so you don’t get killed by your own charas because some of the enemies in Crystal Grande can Confuse your charas.
