Even though Xbox 360's struggling in Japan, Microsoft succeeded at convincing several studios to work on RPGs for the hardware. Trusty Bell: Chopin's Dream, coming from the same studio behind the Baten Kaitos games, features a storyline involving Polish composer Frederick Chopin, who suddenly starts experiencing visions of another world on his death bed.
This morning, Namco Bandai announced Eternal Sonata, the US name of Trusty Bell: Chopin's Dream. As per usual, the press release doesn't tell us too much about the game, except vague mentions of gameplay mechanics and a promise to deliver the game sometime in 2007.
There's more, though. Any reference to Chopin has been replaced with "famous composer." Wondering if that was simply an oversight, 1UP contacted Namco Bandai. "As for Chopin in the game we will have more details to announce on that and other features of the game soon so stay tuned!" said a company representative. Unfortunately, that does little to clear up the issue.
What motive would Namco Bandai have to remove the name? We're not sure. Namco Bandai is known to make questionable changes to its RPGs in the past -- case in point, the censorship of the original Xenosaga. If it's a licensing issue, why would it remain in the Japanese release, where the limited user base would mean fewer sales in the first place?
Namco Bandai doesn't exactly say Chopin has disappeared, though, making it also likely the composer's reveal is part of a timed PR campaign. Hopefully we'll know more soon.
