Basically, the news report starts out by describing "Death Note". An interviewer on location then interviews 3 young adults asking them their opinion on the manga. They all say it's fantastic, etc. When it's revealed he's been arrested, they're shocked.
Basically, he had a swiss army knife in his car... the police found it and arrested him. Totally fucking retarded. Who doesn't own a swiss army knife? And it was in his car, it's not like he was walking down the street with it. He said it was for camping (a completely viable reason).
