Ranmachan hat im oben genannten Thema in diesem Forum eine ziemlich wahrscheinliche Erklärung, warum bezahlt werden muß:
"I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the reason we're paying for this content now is because of the liscense(sp) agreement with Microsoft which allows Bethesda to distribute content for the Xbox 360.
Let's look at some other possiblities here.
I'm going to go further on this limb and say Microsoft used Bethesda's Oblivion game to get the launch of Xbox 360 in the air. I.E make it appealable to gamers. It's only been on the tip of every single RPG fan's tounge since it was first announced.
So we make notice that Xbox Live requires fees to use it's service. Fees that Bethesda has to pay. What better way to cover these fees than to charge for released Content. Remember Siege of Firemoth(correct me if it's wrong ) for morrowind? It didn't have content released for the Xbox and thus it was released freely. It was a quest no bigger than the Pirate quest, or Orrery quest, but it was free.
The difference here is now Bethesda is catering to players on Xbox game systems so they have a priority to keep.
So let's take a look at this. My limb about to break here.
Let's assume that Bethesda decides to charge only Xbox players for content. Let's assume they freely distribute mods to players of the PC game because they are not indebted to service fees,
What would happen then? Well, A big name like Oblivion. A rather unknown system like Xbox and online fees for downloading additional content + no player made mods, you will see the launch of Xbox 360 and the sales of Xbox 360 fall. Remember, there is no "Halo 3" for Xbox 360 so you know for a fact the Xbox 360 launch wouldn't be as good if Oblivion didn't sale well.
What I'm saying ( in my honest opinion ) is the we're paying for mods because it wouldn't be fair to charge content for Xbox users and not for PC users.
Oblivion was meant to be a console game. I think the port to the PC went poorly and we shouldn't pay for content, but that doesn't mean we have to buy it either. At least be thankful we CAN download player mods, unlike the Xbox 360 players who have a fancy box and nothing to show for it."
