actually since these used to be bethesda models (shirts actually) I just used the 3d model program Milkshape 3d and altered the mesh to my liking. I opened it up in NifSkope, exported the object, opened the object in milkshape, changed its appearance then imported it back into nifskope. Since the model has the same number of vertices all the data remained in tact, including the the animation for the upper torso (which is why the cape moves as it does, even if its not much).
