CDV Drops Starforce

Looks like the makers of the Starforce "copy protection" better start to look for new jobs. 1UP is reporting that CDV is dropping Starforce for all future titles it publishes.

Quote:
CDV Software Entertainment, makers of games like Ubersoldier and the upcoming Glory of the Roman Empire, announced that like Ubisoft before them, they are dropping copy protection malware Starforce from their games.

The transition will begin with Glory of the Roman Empire (due in June) and will continue through the CDV library going forward. Instead of Starforce, CDV will be using TAGES brand copy protection.

Excellent news.

Nintendo DS Lite Sells Big in Japan

Game-Science reports:

Quote:

At a recent sales and product explanation meeting for retailers, Nintendo revealed that in its first four days of availability since May 25, New Super Mario Bros. sold through 900,000 copies in Japan. This makes it by far the best debuting DS game ever, and one of the highest debut for a game in Japan in the last few years, topped only by recent hits such as Final Fantasy XII, Dragon Quest VIII and Pokemon FireRed/LeafGreen.

Nintendo also mentioned that 950,000 DS Lite systems were sold in April (not including the older model, which also sold well). That brings total DS sales to 8.4 Million in Japan alone. Another notable success was Tetris DS, which shipped through 800,000 units in 4 weeks.

Half-Life 2 Coming to 360?

EBGames and GameStop have listed Valve's Half Life 2 as being released for the Xbox 360 on February 5, 2007.

Although it is exciting that this could bring Half Life 2 and the downlaodable episodes to the next generation of consoles, this news should be taken with a grain of salt.
