Super Mario Galaxy vermutlich kein Starttitel

Mario Galaxy Within 6 Months of Wii Launch!
- by EternalGamer On May 11, 2006 - 8:11 AM
While unfortunately, Mario Galaxy will not end up being a launch title (I don't think any of us expected it to be), Miyamoto has gone on record as saying it will be close at hand:
Quote:
"[Galaxy] is progressing along quite well, but it's often said that when I get involved in a project I upend the tea table. I don't want to promise anything yet. But if it's not a launch title it will definitely be there within the first six months,
Miyamoto went on to confirm multiplayer modes. A two player game is a definite, but he stated that he was toying with the idea of having 3 or 4 players involved:
Quote:
Miyamoto said that he was experimenting with ways to use the Wii-motes so that[ one player could control Mario and as many as three others could also operate some functionality with separate Wii-motes. Miyamoto indicated that he hadn't finalized what type of operations the second, third and fourth players might have, but suggested that they might be able to input something that would interfere with Mario's progress.
While it looks like we will have to wait a bit for Mario goodness, at least we won't be stuck with just Luigi's Mansion again!

Microsoft sides with Nintendo together to bring down Sony
- by bapenguin On May 11, 2006 - 6:50 AM
This is something I said last night on the podcast. Sony has been on top for so long, and they were so confident that their arrogance seems to have gotten the best of them. While they are by no means down and out in the "console war" they certainly seem to be starting off on the wrong foot. The mainstream media has begun to take a look at the situation and comment on it. On top of that, they have some snippets from Peter Moore on Nintendo.
Quote:
"Tell me why you would buy a $600 PS3?" Peter Moore, a Microsoft vice president, said in an interview. "People are going to buy two (machines.) They're going to buy an Xbox and they're going to buy a Wii ... for the price of one PS3."
Moore then turned pitchman for Nintendo's Wii, the latest offering from the Japanese company that once dominated the video game industry.
"People will always gravitate toward a competitively priced product -- like what I believe Wii will be -- with innovative new designs and great intellectual property like Mario, Zelda and Metroid," Moore told Reuters.
So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong and to strike at what is weak.

Lucasarts Hints at Star Wars Lightsaber Game for Wii
- by fitbabits On May 11, 2006 - 9:29 AM
Whether this article over at Gamasutra is genuine or whether it's a case of "a-ha" remains to be seen, but it's interesting nonetheless.
Quote:
During an extended technical demonstration for a new, unnamed Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 Star Wars title, LucasArts staff have confirmed to Gamasutra the company's intense interest in creating a Wii lightsaber game, if not yet its explicity existence.
The X360/PS3 demonstration, named 'Force Powers Pre-Vis', featured a CGI trailer showing various Jedi defeating stormtroopers in a variety of imaginative and amusing ways.
The second part of the demonstration was in real-time on the Xbox 360, and showed the console simulating a number of real-world materials such as wood, stone, crystal, ice, bone and the Star Wars metal "carbonite" using Pixelux Entertainment's Digital Molecular Matter (DMM) technology. The DMM system was being used in conjunction with NaturalMotion's euphoria technology in both the new Star Wars game and LucasArts's forthcoming new Indiana Jones game.
At the end of the demonstration, Gamasutra inquired as to whether the company planned on creating a lightsaber game for the Wii, after many commented on he suitability of the system to the concept - especially after an internal speaker was revealed in the controller being used to demo the concept.
Fanboy drool at the ready... Commence drooling.

Metroid Prime 3 to Launch with Wii
- by fitbabits On May 11, 2006 - 5:40 AM
Once again, it's Eurogamer with the skinny.
Quote:
Nintendo has revealed that the next instalment in the Metroid series will definitely be a Wii launch title, and that you'll be able to play the game using the motion-sensing remote controller.
Developer Retro Studios is still keeping quiet on the gameplay specifics, but have managed to pick up a few snippets of info - such as the fact that the X-Ray visor is making a welcome return, and it's being upgraded slightly to include a new wall-piercing beam that'll let you seek out cowardly enemies and frazzle them before they even know you're there. It's also going to play a bigger role in puzzle solving, but there's no word as to how exactly this will work.
At the risk of being called Mr. Obvious, Nintendo really are pushing all the right 'gamer' buttons.
