$500 "Low-end" PS3 Lacks WiFi, Card Reader, HDMI

Sony has released a PDF in which it goes into more detail regarding the features found in the two different versions of the PS3. The cheaper, $500 version will not have any WiFi capabilities, a memory card reader, and most importantly, HDMI support. Why is this such a big deal?
