I don't think so, there are many NES or SNES Games which are more popular and even better than today's 3D Games. Much more people prefer Terranigma or Sword of Evermore/Mana instat of Doom 3 or Half Life 2.
Look only at Gothic, this Game could also be amazing even i it where proged with RPG MAKER. So it isn't only the graphic which has a role. Also look at WOW, it has a shity graphic but a good Gameplay, so?

I don't want to say that all 3d games has weak storyline, just usually. I realized that there's more 2d game than 3d game which has a good story. About HL2 and Doom 3: I didn't played with them... yet. But all right...

Also I'm not watching the graphic(maybe sometimes), but I think 2d is enough for a game. A game need story, atmosphere and ... whatever

nja ich hab die SNES schon immer eher gemocht als die PS2 und andere Konsolen...
der 3D engine sieht schon klasse aus,doch der Maker ist und bleibt fürmich die Alternative Games zu machen(naja....anderseitz wäre nen umstieg mit nem650ger kaum möglich...*heul*...)
