But I do recall one of his specific remarks. He described one European custom (I don't recall which country, it might have been Germany but vir-gin would know more about that than I do). In this country, it is traditional to have a guest bathroom next to the front door in one's home, because it was customary to admit anyone who happened to knock on your door asking to use your bathroom. He asserted that this country had no tradition of public toilet facilities because every home's toilet was considered public, to some small degree.
