Bis jetzt gibt es noch kein PvP in FFXI, wird wohl auch erst Anfang nächstes Jahres kommen. Keine Informationen dazu sind mir noch nicht bekannt.

Zu Allianzen, es gibt in dem Sinn in FFXI keine Gilden/Clans, es heißt Linkshell und ist wie ein großer Chatraum, in den natürlich nur Leute können, die eingeladen werden. Der Linkshell hat zwar einen Namen und man sieht es irgendwo auch, aber es ist keine richtige Gilde, wie man es aus anderen MMRPGs kennt. Allianzen kann man zwischen mehreren Partys schließen. Allianzen zwischen Linkshells, hab' ich keine Ahnung, ob das funktioniert.

1 Party = 6 Leute und diese kann sich mit maximal 2 anderen Partys zu einer Allianz mit 18 Leuten zusammenschließen.

Und hier noch etwas zu PvP

Currently, there is no PvP in FFXI, but the developers have stated that PvP is ready to go. They have not put it in yet because it does not fit in with the current storyline.
Implementation is scheduled at some point between January and March of 2004 and will have something to do with the conquest system.

Here is the quote:

- Tanaka: "We've actually got PVP in the system already, it's implemented, but we haven't opened that up to the players yet. The reason we haven't done that is because you have to have a goal. You have to have a reason for doing that. There's nothing in the story that gives us a reason for it, so until we do develop that, it won't be available."
