Has anyone else noticed that pens you steal from other people (intentionally or otherwise) always work much better than any other pens? Even if it's some cheap shitty pen you can pick up 10 of for $2, it'll work amazingly if you've stolen it from someone else. Buy the same pen in a store, and it's shit.

I have a theory that it's natural selection at work. Someone buys a shitload of cheap pens, and as they stop working, they throw them out. Eventually, it'll whittle down their numbers and only the pens that are genuinely good will be left. Then, someone will ask to borrow a pen, you oblige, and they never give it back. You never think to chase them up for it, because you'd be a petty asshole to demand a cheap, disposable pen back, but they in turn are left with the cream of the crop.
