You just saved my life :-)
Now Fallout 2 is also (at least tried first 2 minutes of game) running fine on wine (Debian stable squeeze) - where my CD was not correctly recognized as being in the tray. And it IS running with correct colors, what I can't state of my Windows 7 Ulimate, there all colors are messed up no matter which compatibility mode i choose...
