The Chuck Norris shit actually started, in a way, on Something Awful.
It wouldn't be fair to start the story without a not to Bill Brasky. These skits on SNL, featuring Will Farrel and a couple other people, involved a group of guys, usually at a bar, talking about their recently deceased friend Bill Brasky. They would say things about him that would usually involve him doing things a normal human could not. Most of the time, the "facts about Bill" would involve him either being a huge manly man, doing something obscenely violent, or just doing a bizzare superhuman thing, but all of them done in an over the top, hilarious way. For example, "He date raped David Bowie.","Brasky once got his wife pregnant and gave birth to a delicious 16 ounce steak. The after birth was sauteed mushrooms.", or "Bill Brasky once showed me a video of him making love to my wife, and it was the most beautiful thing I ever saw!". The skits were really funny.
In March 2005, Scoots Magoo made an awesome thread called "Facts about Vin Diesel" (archives:
http://archives.somethingawful.com/...hreadid=1513085). It was thought to have been a throwback to the Bill Brasky stuff, but hey, new Brasky jokes, and Vin Diesel is weird enough. The quotes in that thread were mostly just incredibly weird, like "He starts his day by arguing with a bowl of green apples.", "I hear he enjoys Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies, but only when they're made from the bones of little girl scouts!", and "Vin Diesel donates 90% of his useable blood to the red cross every other tuesday, but insists it go to starving vampires.".
The thread exploded with popularity, and eventually someone made a web page that would show a random fact every time you reload. I won't post a link to it, because the asshole who made it screwed Scoots Magoo over alot, and gosh darn it, Scoots is a nice fella, and that just isn't cool!
The "other" website was visited by many people, and there was nothing really wrong or "old" with the content. Everything was fresh, clever, and the world was happy.
Then the Walker segments started airing on Conan. He started to turn into a Superhero of sorts, which of course made people start to make facts about him. The "other" website thought "Hey, I could make money off of this!" and branched off into 2 sections: Vin and Chuck. This immediately killed the fun. People would take the Vin Diesel facts and insert Chuck Norris instead of Vin Diesel, and submit them. Most of them were about his martial arts.
Pretty much immediately afterwards, the whole thing wasn't only dead, it was considered morbidly lame, even worse than an AYB reference. You can see WITTY Chuck Norris shirts at places like Spencer's or Hot Topic, and if you see someone wearing it, you pretty much have the blessing of the entire forum to hit him or her in the face.
