<***> not much to say, except that more UI options are always nice, and i like that virtual keyboard
<***> definitely superior to the microsoft/sony way of typing with a gamepad
<***> not sure how well it'll work for other languages
<Evu> now that the ui is designed all that is missing is the steambox
<Evu> so i don't have to connect my pc over 4 rooms and still keep my games
<***> you'd need an OS and enough hardware to push the games, so essentially another computer anyway
<***> or you could go with the wireless display route
<***> i don't know much about this stuff, and i'm sure it varies in price and quality, but it exists.

<Evu> for 200$ you could basically buy a 360 instead
<***> but you can't edit video on a 360
<***> you could just buy a Candy Land board game for $12
<***> neither one would accomplish the goal, but the board game is cheaper
<Evu> but ya, the ui features are all nice and interessting but without a dedicated console that boost the performance of the games to a certain level of quality it's not really useful for me
<***> Steam is a vehicle for running PC games; i'm not sure what you're asking for
<***> you want a cheap PC, i suppose?
<***> i want cheap lobster (that's a lie; i don't like lobster)
<Evu> i guess the os is the problem
<Evu> i would like a cheap pc ya, but one with an OS that is basically dedicating its resources only to steam/the game and also able to play all the windows games
<***> ah... well that would be nice
<Evu> so that i can play some rounds at my workspace but also just take my external HDD with steam on it, plug it into my steambox at the living room and play the games in a better quality on the big screen without having to install them again
<Evu> or rather not "fully install" them again i guess
<***> the strength is also the weakness. somebody has to write drivers. linux with Wine is more or less a viable option for -some- windows games.
<***> linux is also multitasking, but it is somewhat less resource intensive
<***> and nvidia might finally start taking its job to make drivers for it seriously
<Evu> wine emulating most windows games will be the crackpoint tho i guess
<Evu> since it again clusters resources unnecessarily and also comes with it's emulation problems
<***> yes. we are unfortunately stuck with windows for now.
<***> when windows 8 kills the dependence on windows, we'll see whether publishers follow to linux or just give up, as many have already.
<Evu> is that already official, that windows 8 will kill the dependency?
<***> what i mean by that is that people won't want to use it
<Evu> oh...
<***> Valve is officially working on making their stuff work on Linux
<***> but most windows games will always require windows
<***> many of them at this point are lazy ports of 360 games, dark souls being one of the laziest in recent memory
<Evu> also if they would take wine for emulation on a unix based os wouldn't that come with copyright infringements?
<***> wine isn't really emulation, though i'm not sure just what it's doing. second, emulation isn't an infringement of copyright, with precedent established in the Bleem case. reverse engineering can be. use of logos could be trademark infringement.
<Evu> you basically would have a console dedicated to emulate windows to emulate an x360 to play lazy ports lol
