Scorching weather hit Tokyo and surrounding areas again Wednesday, the day after the temperature in the capital hit a record high of 39.5 degrees Celsius.

Tokyo heat wave hospitalizes 620 in July
More than 620 people in Tokyo were taken to hospital by ambulance in July suffering from heat stroke brought on by record-level high temperatures, officials said.
Meteorological Agency officials said that preliminary data suggested the average maximum temperature in July was 33.1 degrees Celsius, 0.1 points higher than the previous record posted in July of 2001.
A total of 628 people were delivered to hospital over the month, Tokyo Firefighting department officials said.
When Tokyo's Otemachi district was hit by the record 39.5 degrees Celsius on July 20, the highest temperature ever recorded in the capital, 48 people were taken by ambulance to hospital, the officials said.
