As for the games: Dragonlady already mentioned everything.. Maybe "Shadow Company" might satisfy your needs aswell.. a very good game. ^.^

@schneida: Take a look where Fatmir posts nearly all the time, in the englisch World of Gothic section. And I'm sure, he already knows Gothic 1 ;)

And besides I think, Mud is no mercenary und should't be seen as one, just like Tiki said.
