Soul Legende Isaac Hayes verstorben

Soul legend Isaac Hayes, whose simmering grooves and smooth, talk-singing style paved the way for disco and rap, died Sunday, August 10, at the age of 65. The Associated Press reports that Hayes collapsed at his home in Memphis, though the exact cause of death has yet to be reported.


As his website notes, Hayes scored 20 albums on the R&B and pop charts between 1969 and 1980. 1970's The Isaac Hayes Movement and ...To Be Continued were both hits, but it was 1971's Shaft, the soundtrack to Gordon Parks' blaxploitation film, that launched Hayes into the stratosphere. Shaft hit number one on both the pop and R&B charts, and won both Grammy and Academy Awards. Hayes' performance of "Theme From Shaft" at the 1972 Oscars remains one of television's most powerful musical moments.

Ich habe schon überlegt wo man einen Thread macht.
Schauspieler, Sänger und Synchronsprecher.

Mir egal wo es ist, hauptsache es gibt einen, auch wenn er Scientologe war.

Für mich hat er South Park geprägt und auch bei SG kam er vor. Für seine Musik war er wohl bekannt und beliebt.
Ich mochte ihn und das Jahr zeigt wirklich seine Spuren, nachdem schon so viele Größen nicht mehr unter uns weilen.

Mit seinem Aktivismus für Scientology war er sicher kein ganz unumstrittener Künstler, aber sein musikalischer Einfluss machte ihn lange davor schon zur Legende. Verdammt, ich hatte erst kürzlich wieder Shaft gesehen sowie den Soundtrack gehört und wollte mir gerade wieder mehr seiner Werke zu Gemüte führen... und dann muss ich das erfahren :(
